The Galleries at the Historic Thomas Center have opened two new exhibitions, Into the Woods and Out of the Woods.

A reception will be held to honor the artists, Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and an open house will be held for Artwalk Gainesville Friday, Sept. 30 from 7-10 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

The exhibitions will be on display through Jan. 7, 2023. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Curated by Anne E. Gilroy, these exhibitions were inspired in part by "The Overstory," the 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Richard Powers.

Into the Woods provides the viewer with an unconventional encounter with landscape. This response to the natural world by fourteen artists whose meditative work in paint, sculpture, drawing, photography, and installation art is intertwined as a quiet counterpoint to the upheaval of the onset of the pandemic.

Out of the Woods features narrative and figurative artworks made of wood and displayed alongside excerpts from The Overstory by Richard Powers. It is a collection of work by artists who connect to nature through the intimate experience of working with wood with reverence and revelation.
