The Building Division provides journeyman and master electrical license sponsorships. In cooperation with the Building Division, Prov, Inc coordinates testing for both Journeyman and Master Electrical exams. All applicants must have at least three years of experience.

Overall Process

  1. Apply for sponsorship. The fee for applying is $58.00.
    • We accept checks, money orders, and debit/credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover).
  2. The Building Official will review the application.

  3. Once the Building Official approves the application, an email from Prov, Inc will be sent to the applicant providing instructions on how to schedule their exam, and the materials needed to study for the exam. The applicant is responsible for scheduling their exam through Prov, Inc.
    • The sponsorship is only good for 1 year from the date the Building Official approves the application.
  4. Once the applicant passes their exam, they need to request the license from the Building Division by emailing building@gainesvillefl.gov and include the letter from Prov, Inc showing that they have passed.

  5. Once the license fee has been paid, the license can be issued and emailed to the applicant or picked up from our office.
    • The license will need to be renewed every 2 years.
