The City of Gainesville is responding to rising gun violence starting with a two-day summit that allowed our community to collaborate with experts as we explored this complex issue.
The City of Gainesville’s Gun Violence Prevention Summit was held Aug. 6-7, 2023, at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, and included sessions dedicated to policy analysis, violence prevention and group discussion. Mayor Pro-Tem Desmon Duncan-Walker anchored the summit’s first day, hearing from community members and hosting a panel discussion and youth town hall. Mayor Harvey L. Ward Jr. anchored the second day, which consisted of workshop activities based on policy discussion for thought leaders and professionals in the field.
