How do I schedule a typing, Word, or Excel test?

In order to qualify for a job that requires a typing, Word, or Excel test, you will need to provide documentation of your passing scores on the appropriate test(s).These tests can be taken each at Florida Works, 4800 SW 13th Street, Gainesville, Florida. Florida Works phone is 352-955-2245 (press 5 and then 3). An alternate Florida Works is located in Starke at 819 S. Walnut Street, Phone: 904-964-8092.

Passing scores may be delivered to the City of Gainesville's Human Resources Department, 222 E. University Avenue (Old Library Building next to City Hall). You may also send scores in a PDF to HR@gainesvillefl.gov or by fax, including a cover sheet and the first page of each test, to 352-334-2055.

You will need to re-test if your scores are dated more than one year ago or if your scores are not at (or higher than) the minimum required for the job for which you are applying. Call HR at 352-334-5077 if you are unsure if your scores are still on file.

What is the minimum wage?

The Florida minimum wage is $10 per hour, effective Sept. 30, 2021.
