Florida Arbor Day and Urban Forestry Workshop

Celebrate Florida Arbor Day!

Because the ground is soft enough to plant trees as early as January, Florida has a second arbor day in addition to the national day. Here in Gainesville, we celebrate both.

Join us to learn about the differences between laurel and live oak trees, handling conflict between roots and hardscapes, the city’s tree code and see a tree planting demonstration. To cap the event, there will be a tree giveaway including a variety of fruit trees!

Educational talks:

  • Laurel Oak vs. Live Oak – Dave Conser (City Arborist), and Sam Schatz (City Horticulturist)
  • Tree Planting Demonstration – Sam Schatz (City Horticulturist)
  • Roots vs. Hardscapes, How to Handle – Dave Conser (City Arborist), Herb Poole (Tree Surgeon III), Chelsea Proia (Urban Forestry and Landscape Inspector)
