The annual Juneteenth Film Festival features independent and national films crafted by local, regional and national filmmakers.

Join us for the 4th Annual GNV Juneteenth Film Festival on Saturday, June 6, at the Hippodrome Cinema, 25 SE Second Pl.
  • 5:15 p.m. — Opening Introductions
  • 5:30-5:45 p.m. — “Mama Bhangra” A Florida-based adventure story set in a North Florida small town, produced by Gainesville 48.
  • 5:55-6:05 p.m. — “Broken Notes” “Remember, you will only have time for just one shot.” A Southern Gothic and Blues short film, also produced by Gainesville 48.
  • 6:05-6:30 p.m. — Live Performance: Wester Joseph—Join guitarist and storyteller Wester Joseph for a musical Southern fields journey.
  • 6:35-7:15 p.m. — “The Florida Chitlin’ Circuit” Screening of the documentary “The Florida Chitlin’ Circuit: Where the Legends Came to Play During the Jim Crow Era,” produced by the North Central Florida Blues Society and Billy C. Wirtz.

The City of Gainesville’s month-long "Journey to Juneteenth" celebration, from Florida Emancipation Day (May 20) through the widely recognized Juneteenth holiday (June 19), honors the long and turbulent journey to freedom while staying true to our history of Florida Emancipation on May 20.
