Next date: Saturday, September 05, 2026 | 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM

Friendship and Freedom

This play follows Addy, an escaped enslaved girl, as she starts a new life in the North during the Civil War.

Visitors will be able to tour a one-room schoolhouse and enjoy a performance by a choral group singing spirituals and freedom songs, along with choral lessons with the 1000 Voices of Florida, Inc.

This event is part of Plays in the Park: The American Story where we celebrate America250 with live performances and hands-on activities.

Brought to you by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs in partnership with the Star Center Theatre. This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
