Non-Certified Firefighter Training/Applications

Come join the Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) team! Work in an exciting career serving the Gainesville community. Fire School and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) School sponsorships are available.

Gainesville Fire Rescue is hiring non-certified applicants pursuing a career in Fire/EMT. Hired applicants will attend the Fire Academy in the fall of 2022. Recruits receive a salary and benefits while they attend the required training academies.

Non-Certified Firefighter applicants must have:
  • A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license at the time of appointment
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment
The application process involves two tests. A computer based exam called the Fire Team test and a physical test called the CPAT. To register for these tests, please visit: www.nationaltestingnetwork.com. Schedule your test and send your test results to Gainesville Fire Rescue.

Important information

  1. The deadline for the Fire Team test is April 3, 2023. This computer based exam measures reading/math/mechanical skills and human relations.
    • You may retake it again 3 months after the first attempt. – So take it as early as possible!
    • We recommend taking the practice test first.
    • We also recommend taking the test at an official NTN site.
    • You must contact Gainesville Fire Rescue to get your scores. 352-334-5075.
  2. The deadline for the CPAT is May 18, 2023. The CPAT is a physical test involving many job related tasks and movements. You MUST take this test through the National Testing Network. Do not sign up for independent CPATs, as they are not accepted.

  3. Applicants who pass the National Testing Network exams may interview for the position.
