The City of Gainesville has established Real Estate Policies that regulate the purchase and sale of property by the city. These policies also affect any personal property attached to or on property that is or will be purchased or sold by the city.

These policies intend to support the city’s efforts to ensure that there is an adequate supply of housing for all income groups and to assist the private and non-profit housing sector in providing permanently affordable housing for low-income very low-income, and extremely low-income households.

Economic Development and Special Projects:

  • Provides technical support to all City departments in buying or selling property on behalf on the city.
  • Maintains records of real property purchases and sales
  • Reviews and approves in coordination with the City Attorney any real estate documentation/transactions.
  • Conducts negotiations and oversees the execution of real estate documents.
  • Report all sales and purchases to the City Commission regularly.
