Gainesville commissions local artist for GPD Art Fencing Project

Sarah Hinds' proposal, "Common Light," was selected through a competitive qualifications-based process. The composition plays with circular forms that evoke citrus slices, bicycle wheels, train wheels and sunlight simultaneously, allowing the imagery to remain open, recognizable and interconnected rather than literal. Flowing structural bands reference pathways, rail lines and the flow of music.

Third public safety project breaks ground in Gainesville

For the third time in as many months, the City of Gainesville has broken ground on a public safety facility. The latest project is the Southwest Public Safety Center, a hurricane-hardened complex under construction near Archer Road and Interstate 75. The center will include a fire station with four engine bays, a dedicated Public Works warehouse and a community meeting room.

Depot Park celebrates decade as Gainesville’s signature park

Gainesville invites the community to the 10th anniversary celebration of Depot Park, 7-11 p.m. Saturday, August 1, with an evening of family-friendly entertainment, music and activities. The event is free and open to the public. The main parking lot will be reserved for ADA-accessible parking only. Additional parking is available in the overflow lot.
