The City of Gainesville’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) is holding a public hearing to present its proposed Incentives and Recommendations Report (IRR), and to obtain the views and comments of residents concerning the proposed IRR. The public hearing is Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Historic Thomas Center, building A, room 105 (302 NE Sixth Ave.).

City Observes Labor Day Holiday

New signage to indicate boundaries of Gainesville’s ACE Districts

The City of Gainesville has begun to install new signs along streets in its two Arts, Culture and Entertainment (ACE) Districts where open containers of alcohol are permitted between 8 a.m. and midnight daily.

Climate Action

Beginning with the selection of a chief climate officer in January 2023, the City of Gainesville looks to bring together its climate initiatives and get residents involved.

Choice Neighborhood Initiative

In September 2023, the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) were awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This grant will be used to create a plan to redevelop and revitalize neighborhoods in east Gainesville.

UF Transit Services Agreement

In March 2024, University of Florida officials notified City of Gainesville leaders of their plans to let the current contract for RTS bus service expire on June 30, 2024 without renewal. Instead, UF officials proposed a month-to-month agreement with the City, beginning July 1 (as they explore other transportation options).
