Choice Neighborhood Initiative In September 2023, the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) were awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This grant will be used to create a plan to redevelop and revitalize neighborhoods in east Gainesville.
UF Transit Services Agreement In March 2024, University of Florida officials notified City of Gainesville leaders of their plans to let the current contract for RTS bus service expire on June 30, 2024 without renewal. Instead, UF officials proposed a month-to-month agreement with the City, beginning July 1 (as they explore other transportation options).
City's Budget The Financial and Operating Plan (the city's budget) is approved by the City Commission, and outlines the city's revenues and expenditure allocations for upcoming fiscal years along with the key priorities, areas for remedial action and areas for focus locally.
