City of Gainesville secures $10.2 million federal transit grant

The City of Gainesville’s Regional Transit System (RTS) has been awarded a federal grant totaling $10,263,750 to fund construction of a new Westside Bus Transfer Station and Park-and-Ride facility, ADA accessibility upgrades to bus stops and the replacement of aging paratransit vehicles. The timely award comes shortly after RTS launched its new in-house ADA paratransit, RTS Plus, on March 1.

Cold Night Shelter Program available March 16-19

City of Gainesville officials anticipate severe weather conditions, including temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, during the evening hours of Monday, March 16-Thursday, March 19. The anticipated temperatures will lead to the activation of the city's Cold Night Shelter (CNS) Program, and it is expected to remain in effect until overnight low temperatures rise above 45 F.

City officials to present Key to the City to Less Than Jake

Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward and City Commissioner Bryan Eastman will present ska-punk band Less Than Jake with a Key to the City at a benefit performance this Saturday during the group’s annual Wake and Bake Festival.

Choice Neighborhood Initiative

In September 2023, the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) were awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This grant will be used to create a plan to redevelop and revitalize neighborhoods in east Gainesville.
