The City of Gainesville mailed business tax renewal statements in late August 2022. The renewal is due on or before Monday, Oct. 3.

Business tax exemptions: If the business owner or majority shareholder/partner belongs to any of the classes below, call 352-334-5024, during office hours, or email citybc@gainesvillefl.gov for information on business tax exemptions that might be available.

Recertification letters for existing exempt businesses (except veteran-exempt businesses) were mailed on July 1, 2022.  Please send an email to citybc@gainesvillefl.gov if you didn’t receive the certification letter.

All exemptions have requirements that must be met in order to qualify. These exemptions require that you live in Alachua County and do not have more than one other helper or employee:

  • Over age 65 as of October 1, 2022
  • Disabled and incapable of manual labor
  • Widow(er) with minor dependents

These exemptions are available if the business has less than 100 employees:

  • A veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • The spouse or unremarried widow(er) of a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • The spouse of a service member stationed in Gainesville
  • A person who receives public assistance
  • A person whose household income is less than 130% of the federal poverty guideline

Online payments: Online payments are accepted 24 hours a day, and the online system accepts payments effective Thursday, Sept. 1. Online payments may be made by credit card or electronic check. The online system will not allow you to make any changes to your business tax file; changes need to be made in person at the Billing and Collection Office. If all required documents are on file, the business tax receipt will be sent by email to the email address on file; a receipt will not be mailed via USPS.

Office hours: The Billing & Collection Office hours are M-T and Th-F from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and W from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The office is located on the third floor of City Hall, located at 200 E. University Ave.

Closed businesses: If your business has closed or will be closing on or before Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, please contact our office so that your business tax account can be closed and no tax statement will be sent to you.
