Prescribed Burn at Morningside Nature Center set for July 12

A prescribed burn is scheduled for today (Jan. 12) weather and site conditions permitting, at Morningside Nature Center, 3540 E. University Ave. beginning at 11 a.m. and ending before 5 p.m. This is an ecological fuel reduction burn, which will be conducted with support from the Florida Forest Service. Public access will remain open. The small 7 acre burn will be taking place on the North end of the property.

In an effort to promote public safety, and to restore and maintain the health of our natural resources, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs staff work closely with the Florida Forest Service, the University of Florida, Alachua County Fire Rescue, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, as well as the Gainesville Police Department and Gainesville Fire Rescue.
