RTS fare-free program to require ID cards as of April 1 Published on February 05, 2025 Beginning April 1, riders eligible for the RTS Fare-Free Transit Program must present an RTS identification card to ride at no cost. The transit program offers free bus fares for RTS passengers 65 and older and those 18 and younger. RTS ID cards are available at no charge. Gainesville announces new RTS contract with the University of Florida Published on January 16, 2025 The City of Gainesville and UF have announced a new bus service contract that will continue the university’s prepaid bus fare program through mid-2027.UF will increase payments from $84 per bus hour to $88.35. Gainesville receives federal award to fund new EV charging stations Published on January 14, 2025 The funds will enable the city to build 47 new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the area; the dual-port stations would be capable of charging as many as 94 EVs at the same time. In the coming months, the city will secure a private contractor for the project. Following design and site improvement work in 2026, installation of the charging stations should begin in 2027.
