Phase 1 - East

Cornerstone was originally designed in 2015 with six ready-to-build lots - GTEC and Mérieux Nutrisciences developed two of them. The GCRA has remained dedicated to enhancing the city-owned GTEC Facility, now known as the Gainesville Teaching and Entrepreneurial Community (GTEC) Center.

The GTEC Center aims to continue its role as a premier entrepreneurial incubation space while also strengthening it’s benefit to the community. GCRA, in partnership with Santa Fe College, aims to expand programming opportunities for entrepreneurs to foster regional collaboration.

Phase 2 - West

Cornerstone West.png(PNG, 3MB) The Cornerstone Development Project began in Fiscal Year 2022 to improve essential infrastructure and public services for the Gainesville community. In 2023, the GCRA purchased additional land, expanding the site to over 31 acres. This strategic investment in healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure will support long-term growth and sustainability.

The new UF Health Clinic / UF Health Urgent Care Center – Eastside, funded with $4.5 million from City of Gainesville and Alachua County ARPA funds, recently opened to improve healthcare access for residents. A new roadway connecting Hawthorne Road to SE 8th Avenue is on track to be completed by June 2025, making it easier to get around the area. Construction of a new RTS transfer station—funded by a $4.1 million federal grant—is expected to start by the end of 2025 to boost public transit options and connectivity.

The Cornerstone Food Truck Initiative has brought more food choices to the area, with five food trucks rotating during the first six weeks. The next step is to create a permanent market space to support local entrepreneurs and increase food access. Planning for the market space vision begins in Summer 2025.

The Gainesville Teaching & Entrepreneurial Community (GTEC) Center is also being refreshed to better support local entrepreneurs with modern facilities and improved functionality. Walker Architects and Greenwood Consulting are guiding the upgrades to help foster economic growth and innovation.
