About the Heritage Trail 

The Historic Heritage Trail Project aims to honor the legacy of the Black community in the Fifth Avenue & Pleasant Street neighborhood by placing historical markers at key locations. This effort that has made significant progress throughout late 2024 and early 2025 to ensure the markers accurately reflect the historical significance of each site.

Attend a Workshop

Community Planning Collaborative (CPC) is working with the City of Gainesville to develop a site plan for the project area.

We invite local residents, historical societies, neighborhood associations, students, artists, historians, teachers, influencers and community advocates as we work together to bring the Fifth Avenue & Pleasant Street heritage trail closer to completion.

About the Project

The Historic Heritage Trail Project honors the contributions of the African American community in the Fifth Avenue & Pleasant Street neighborhood by placing historical markers at important locations. Led by the Community Planning Collaborative (CPC) and the city, the project involves careful research, community involvement, and planning to ensure accuracy and historical significance. Working together with stakeholders, community members, and city representatives, the team is creating a site map and marker narratives that showcase the neighborhood’s rich history and lasting impact.
