2025 Community Excellence Awards

The City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, together with the Public Recreation and Parks Board, Nature Centers Commission, Gainesville Art in Public Places Trust, Gainesville Cultural Affairs Board and Evergreen Cemetery Association presented the 2025 Community Excellence Awards at the Historic Thomas Center in a ceremony on March 26.

City receives clean FY2025 audit; finances are accurate, transparent

For the third year in a row, Gainesville has received a clean financial audit from external auditor Purvis, Gray & Company. The city’s Department of Financial Services completed the FY 2025 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report on schedule with no findings, marking another year of accurate, transparent financial reporting and continued progress in strengthening the city's financial foundation.

City of Gainesville secures $10.2 million federal transit grant

The City of Gainesville’s Regional Transit System (RTS) has been awarded a federal grant totaling $10,263,750 to fund construction of a new Westside Bus Transfer Station and Park-and-Ride facility, ADA accessibility upgrades to bus stops and the replacement of aging paratransit vehicles. The timely award comes shortly after RTS launched its new in-house ADA paratransit, RTS Plus, on March 1.

Choice Neighborhood Initiative

In September 2023, the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) were awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This grant will be used to create a plan to redevelop and revitalize neighborhoods in east Gainesville.
