The Streatery construction hits major milestone

Construction of The Streatery in downtown Gainesville has reached a significant milestone, with brick paver installation now underway. The project, approved by the Gainesville City Commission in March, will transform SW 1st Avenue, between South Main and SW 2nd Streets, into a curbless, pedestrian-oriented corridor for activities and events. Completion is expected in October.

Tom Petty Park officially reopened June 6 to the delight of Gainesville residents and visitors who welcomed the renovations and new amenities. Improvements include new pickleball courts, seating, shade canopies, a multiuse trail, a concessions and storage building with public restrooms. Choice Neighborhood Initiative

In September 2023, the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) were awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This grant will be used to create a plan to redevelop and revitalize neighborhoods in east Gainesville.
