Post-storm update

City offices and municipal pools are scheduled to reopen tomorrow, Oct.11. Our disaster debris contractor plan to resume operations tomorrow. They have already collected 4,300 cubic yards of yard waste left by Hurricane Helene, the equivalent of more than 200 standard truckloads. We appreciate your patience as these operations resume.

No Gainesville curfew at this time

City of Gainesville officials are not enacting a city curfew at this time but continue to urge neighbors to stay off the roads this evening and tomorrow. After storm passes, this will enable emergency responders to more quickly help neighbors in need, restore power to homes and street lights, and clear debris from roadways.

Report downed trees, street signs and other storm damage at myGNV.org. Report any flooding in your area by submitting photos on the Flood Reporter application.

Nelson Moya selected as Gainesville’s new Chief of Police

After a nationwide search, the City of Gainesville is pleased to announce Nelson Moya as its next chief of police. He assumes his new position effective Monday, Sept. 16. A public swearing-in ceremony will be held at a later date.

Celebrating first responders during National EMS Week

When Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) paramedics first arrived at the scene of the motorcycle accident, the young, helmetless rider was unconscious. Matt Benavidez, a senior in college, had suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a vehicle on that fateful night in November 2020.

Gainesville refreshes Lynch Park while supporting GRACE expansion
