Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) is proud to announce the launch of Fresh Fades & Healthy Hearts, a new outreach initiative funded by a $27,050 grant from the Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation. Designed to promote cardiovascular wellness, the innovative program will be led by GFR’s Director of Community Health Initiatives Brandy Stone.

Portion of NW Eigth Avenue to close Saturday, June 7, for road repairs

Public Works will close a portion of NW Eighth Avenue this Saturday, June 7, between 7 a.m.-3 p.m. as teams assess damage caused by a failed storm water pipe. The urban forestry team also will be on-site to structurally prune trees along the route while the roadway is closed to traffic.

After deadly hurricane season, city officials stress storm readiness

The city has published a new hurricane preparedness brochure, Prepare and Weather the Storm, to help neighbors make emergency plans ahead of what forecasters predict will be an above-normal hurricane season. The brochure includes information to help neighbors prepare well before hurricane watches and warnings are issued. It also lists key emergency contact information and resources.

Vandal sentenced for threatening a public servant, property damage

The individual arrested for committing several acts of vandalism at Gainesville City Hall and the Old Library Building has been sentenced to nine months in jail and three years of probation. He also is required to compensate the city for $15,169 in damages, , and has been banned from City Hall and the Old Library Building.

Nelson Moya selected as Gainesville’s new Chief of Police
