The Community Health Division of Gainesville Fire Rescue serves as the public health arm of the City of Gainesville—dedicated to improving the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in our city. Grounded in public health theory and guided by data, our work focuses on prevention, early intervention, and access to care.

We aim to support a healthier, safer Gainesville through compassionate, collaborative and community-centered programs. By addressing health disparities, reducing barriers and meeting people where they are, we strive to create a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Programs

Community Resource Paramedicine (CRP)

Our Community Resource Paramedicine (CRP) team connects high-need residents with appropriate medical, behavioral and social services. By building trust and delivering in-home care, CRP reduces emergency room visits and promotes better long-term outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Gun Violence Prevention

Through the city’s gun violence prevention program, IMPACT GNV, we take a public health approach to gun violence, focusing on root causes and community-driven solutions. Through data analysis, education, and partnerships, we work to reduce violence and support those impacted by it.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program

Our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)(PDF, 563KB) program supports individuals struggling with opioid use disorder by combining medication with facilitated connections to counseling and behavioral therapies. We offer pathways to recovery and work closely with healthcare providers and treatment centers to ensure seamless care.

Opioid and Substance Use Abatement

We support local efforts to combat opioid misuse and substance use through education, harm reduction strategies, and community partnerships. Our initiatives aim to save lives, reduce stigma and promote recovery.

Health Education and Promotion

Empowering the community through knowledge is at the heart of our work. We offer health education programs on topics ranging from chronic disease prevention to mental health awareness, always tailored to the unique needs of our diverse neighborhoods.

Fire and Life Safety Education

Prevention starts with awareness. Our Fire and Life Safety Educator provides hands-on, age-appropriate programs for all members of the community—from young children to older adults. We teach fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and home safety to reduce risk and build resilience. Whether it's through school visits, community events, or in-home safety checks, we’re committed to keeping Gainesville safe—one household at a time.
